Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey

gotoshop

Product Details

The world’s most beloved and inquisitive monkey is back in Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey, the fun-filled sequel to the hit animated movie. Join Curious George and The Man with the Yellow Hat as they set out on a madcap cross-country adventure to reunite Kayla, a homesick elephant, with her family. This unlikely trio faces all types of comic calamities and colorful characters and in the end learn that with family, friends and determination you can achieve anything. Featuring the voices of Tim Curry, Matt Lauer, Jamie Kennedy and Jerry Lewis, Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey, “proves that family, friends—and curiosity—are number one.” (Francine Brokaw, Los Angeles Family Magazine)

Young children, and monkeys, thrive when they enjoy a close relationship with their families and caregivers, but their innate sense of curiosity is bound to get these young members of society into trouble from time to time. In Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey, the Man with the Yellow Hat (Ted) is up for a promotion to museum director at the Bloomsberry museum--all he has to do is convince the board of directors that he's the best man for the job. As Ted focuses in on his priorities for the museum's future, some gentle prodding from his monkey George and woman friend Maggie remind him that those you care about need to be high on one's priority list as well. A trip to Piccadilly's circus seems like just what George, Maggie, and Ted need, but when Ted "volunteers" for a magic trick that goes terribly wrong, George and the circus's elephant Kayla wind up missing. What ensues is a perilous and adventure-filled cross-country train chase that ends with an insightful lesson about the importance of family, perseverance, and doing what's right. The great thing about this film is that the animators have preserved the simple, colorful style of the original book illustrations for Margret and H. A. Rey's Curious George, while adding in some distinctly modern touches. Also, the voice talent, music, and script are very effective at re-creating the tone of the books. There are, however, two starkly strange elements in this film: the private investigator character Danno Wolfe and the television reporter Hark Hanson. Perhaps the introduction of these characters was just another attempt to modernize the story, but the cynical detective and sensationalist television personality seem completely out of place in the innocent world of Curious George. Nonetheless, toddlers, young children, and even their parents can't help but delight in the simple antics of this very curious monkey named George and his caregiver the Man with the Yellow Hat. --Tami Horiuchi

101 Dalmatians II - Patch's London Adventure

gotoshop

Product Details

Patch, the TV-obsessed pup of the 1961 animated original, becomes a star in this sequel when he sneaks off to audition for his favorite show, Thunderbolt. Meanwhile, the ego-driven canine star (voiced by Spin City's Barry Bostwick) learns that his character is about to be killed off. His solution? Be a real-life hero. Patch, with his encyclopedic knowledge of Thunderbolt episodes, prowls the streets of London with his idol, making disastrous attempts to rescue unsuspecting citizens. Cruella De Vil returns, on probation for her earlier misdeeds, but still determined to steal the puppies. She springs old cohorts Horace and Jasper from jail and adds artist Lars (Martin Short) to her arsenal. What results is a blend of the animated original's coziness with the live-action version's slapstick, wrapped up with a high-minded ending in which Patch teaches his hero what it means to be genuinely heroic. (Ages 3 and older) --Kimberly Heinrichs

I bought this movie for my 5yr old daughter who loves the first one and since its a sequel i figured that she would enjoy it. She hated it and i could understand why she knew as i did immediately that the voices were different and the animation was ok but it didnt have the same spark as the original did and that i didnt like it held a good message for kids though and if it was a little better i would have even enjoyed it but all in all it was an ok movie

Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies

gotoshop

Product Details

This workout will de-mystify the mystical so that anyone can experience the fabulous benefits of yoga. Today, many people use yoga to help alleviate back pain, reduce stress, and increase flexibility.

A workout that balances both the body and the mind can be found in the Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies. Fundamental postures are explained and demonstrated slowly with an emphasis on breathing and motion. Sara Ivanhoe teaches 12 basic poses that are termed the "daily dozen" and offers challenges and modifications to each of these moves. Ivanhoe presents these concepts in an approachable and calming manner that adds to the overall relaxed feeling that this session exudes. Newcomers to the practice of yoga will learn jargon, essential postures, and focusing techniques. Experienced participants may find some information redundant, but Ivanhoe offers such thorough explanations about each posture that you can't help but expand your existing knowledge of yoga. As the mountain pose, standing forward bend, and downward facing dog are explained (not to mention the nine other poses within the "daily dozen"), proper body alignment becomes the focus. Meticulous attention is given to the connection between breathing and body movement with several reminders to keep the spine in "neutral alignment." This session ranks great for safety and content and makes yoga accessible to anyone who "always wanted to, but never did." This is a substantial program that can introduce the basics and build your understanding of yoga. --Olivia Voigts

One of the first gems of the cable TV age, Faerie Tale Theatre brings 26 classic tales to life. Produced over a five-year span (1982-87) for Showtime, FTT brought together creative dramatics and whimsical writing with some of the top talents of the day. Executive producer/host Shelley Duvall (who was coming off her breakout role in The Shining) shepherds this mix of theatrical simplicity and grand storytelling for these oft-told tales ("Goldilocks and the Three Bears," "Little Red Riding Hood," "Hansel and Gretel," "Sleeping Beauty," and the like) for kids and their parents. Since they are not elaborately produced, FTT may be a hard sell for some smaller members of the family at first, but most should be hooked, even older kids who may pooh-pooh fairy tales. There's always a slight twist that makes these productions fresh.

The cast is amazing, especially when you think how lightly cable television was thought of in the '80s: Jeff Bridges, Bud Cort, Liza Minnelli, James Coburn, Susan Sarandon, Christopher Reeve, Klaus Kinski, Billy Crystal, Matthew Broderick, Gregory Hines, Eric Idle, Robin Williams, and Mick Jagger are some of the talented--and varied--actors appearing. Crystal's take on the smart "Little Pig" (with Jeff Goldblum as the wolf) and Williams's "Frog Prince" are two comic gems. Malcolm McDowell, right in the middle of his career high-point of playing baddies, brings flair to the Big Bad Wolf, while his then-real-life wife Mary Steenburgen beautifully counterpoints as Red Riding Hood. The casting of Vincent Price and Vanessa Redgrave in "Snow White" is inspired. Also impressive are the directors Duvall pooled: Tim Burton ("Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp"), Francis Ford Coppola ("Rip Van Winkle") Peter Medak (three episodes), Nicholas Meyer ("Pied Piper"), and Roger Vadim ("Beauty and the Beast"). You can go on for days about these wonderful tales, most totaling around the 45-minute mark, but it's better just to get the set and start wherever you'd like; you will get to the end sooner than you think. --Doug Thomas

Rhoda: Season One

gotoshop

Product Details

The popular spin-off of the beloved Mary Tyler Moore Show finally arrives on DVD. It all begins as Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper) goes home to New York for a visit. When she unexpectedly meets the guy, Rhoda decides to move back. Joe Gerard (David Groh), the ruggedly handsome and divorced owner of a demolition company, is the perfect match for Rhoda. The couple works hard to keep their relationship solid in spite of, and sometimes because of, nonstop interference by Rhodas manipulative mother Ida (played by the brilliant Nancy Walker), her needy, depressed sister Brenda (Julie Kavner, The Simpsons), her loving but ineffectual father Martin (Harold Gould, The Sting) and, of course, Carlton the Doorman. In the first season, Rhoda and Joe met, fell in love, got married and set up life together. This first season won Golden Globe Awards for Best Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy. Valerie Harper won the Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Comedy that year. Rhoda would go on to win our hearts during its five season run.

Bonus Features:

Remembering Rhoda: Creators James L. Brooks and Allan Burns and stars Julie Kavner and Harold Gould look back at the creation and success of Rhoda.

It’s easy to see why Rhoda fans are ecstatic that the series has finally appeared on DVD (with all 24 first-season episodes on four discs), a mere 35 years after its broadcast debut. Shows like this are the comedy equivalent of comfort food: uncomplicated, reliable, not very spicy but tasty and filling. Sitcom meatloaf, you might say. Spun off from Mary Tyler Moore by co-creators James L. Brooks (whose formidable resume as a writer, director, and producer also includes The Simpsons, Taxi, and movies like Broadcast News and As Good As It Gets) and Allan Burns, the show finds Valerie Harper’s Rhoda Morgenstern returning to her native New York after a decade in Minneapolis. What begins as a short visit turns into a full-blown homecoming when she meets and immediately falls for the manly-but-sensitive Joe Gerard (David Groh); Rhoda at first lives with dowdy, amusingly neurotic sister Brenda (Julie Kavner, later to achieve considerable fame and fortune as the voice of Marge Simpson), but we’re barely a third of the way into the season when she and Joe decide to tie the knot.

Debuting in 1974 (it ran for five years), Rhoda is an interesting reflection of its times. Harper’s character is a feminist ("Thank you, Ms. Magazine," she says when Brenda congratulates her for taking the initiative with Joe), but still old-fashioned enough to balk at moving in with a man before they’re married. Sexual revolution notwithstanding, references to sex are chaste and fleeting. And in this pre-PC era, the show is unabashedly, old-school ethnic, with its broad Bronx accents and Rhoda’s stereotypically hovering, meddling, hard-to-please Jewish mother (hilariously portrayed by Nancy Walker). But if it seems a little out of date, Rhoda makes up for that simply by being funny and likable; the hour-long "Rhoda’s Wedding," one of the highest-rated TV episodes of its time, is a riot, featuring Harper’s former Mary Tyler Moore mates (Moore, Ed Asner, Gavin MacLeod, Georgia Engel, and the inspired Cloris Leachman) having an absolute field day. And let’s not forget show producer Lorenzo Music as the drunken Carlton the Doorman, never seen but often heard via intercom. The sole bonus item is a paltry reminiscence with Brooks and Burns but none of the actors. --Sam Graham

Customer Reviews ::

One of the best out there - Jared Wolfsen - Eugene, OR
I have quite a large collection of Instructional DVD's for guitar and this is one of the better ones. The songs are done first at speed, then they are showed to you in a slowed down version and each song is carefully taught in a way that anyone can benefit from. My only complaints are:
Some of the solo's are cut short (Ramblin' Man doesn't include the ending or the end solos) but they couldn't fit it all on one DVD if they didn't cut it down, and
they didn't do my favorite song; Blue Sky.
Other than that, this is a great guitar tutorial for anyone interested in learning the Allman brothers styles. Oh, and to the folks that bought this thinking it was concert footage, I can't believe you would admit that mistake for the record. I would be way too embarrassed to admit such a mistake...

Cesar Millan has been called the Dr. Phil for Dogs. With an uncanny ability to rehabilitate problem dogs of all shapes and sizes, Cesar has captured the national spotlight with his hit TV show on the National Geographic Channel. Each episode of the Dog Whisperer documents the remarkable transformations that take place under Cesar’s guidance and teaching, helping dogs and their owners live happier lives together.

Customer Reviews ::

All Hype and No Help - The Dog Diva - USA
Most aggression in dogs is related to fear, not to your dog trying to take over your chair, your home, and rest of the country. The dominance theory that Cesar espouses has been disproved by scientific studies, and is no longer accepted as valid by professional behaviorists (you know, the ones with education and training). So, if you want, watch this for entertainment, but don't be misled, and don't try his techniques, most of which are seriously outdated, dangerous, and sometimes harmful. Read the AVSAB position statements on dominance and punishment if you don't believe me. THOSE are the REAL pro's that Cesar mentions in his show's disclaimer - which most of his cult follower morons ignore. Save your money.
