Dark Angel is set in a depressing apocalyptic world. It's basically a story of survival against the odds, and shows the heroine to have many redeeming qualities such as loyalty, love for her friends, dependability, etc. It has been one of my favorite sci-fi series of all time, and now I own the entire set.
